Do you think that you absolutely need an incredible knowledge of music theory to make a good music career........eg...if someone had no musical knowledge and u gave them a simple bit of musical notation and they just said "what the hell is this" but yet they still made really really good music themselves.....do you think theres any chance theyd go far?...or is musical theory knowledge a must?!?
Sorry for the stupidity of that
Thanks
Some people build careers with absolutely no musical knowledge (the formal kind, anyway). Other people have an incredible depth of knowledge and spend their days in factory jobs.
Music is a very competitive business. Most of us will not be 'discovered', so we have to be content with building a career outside of playing to packed arenas. We hustle around to auditions, hammer away at generating publicity, mail out demo tapes and promo packages to no end. We try to get in front of the decision makers who pay for music.
In that everyday world, whatever you can do to give yourself the edge over your competition will help.
There's only one thing that all successful musicians have, and that's perserverance.
