you are playing a song you are working on, your girlfriend walks through the room briefly, and later you hear her humming it. :D She didn't even realize it was my song she was humming. Then she told me it's pretty catchy. Cool. :D

Thanks!

It was kind of a cheesy post, but it was one of those moments when you kinda smile to yourself. I've been making fairly good strides in my playing the last few weeks, so it just made me feel good that the tune I was coming up with stuck in her head like that.

I think it is important to recognize when you are seeing yourself do well.
mark your calendar. seriously. it'll remind you that there are good days when you find yourself stuck on the endless plateau of same old same old.

and complimets on having a cool girlfriend.

I had a similar situation at home a few weeks ago: I was working on Tears in Heaven and my wife walked in and said, Hey that's Eric Clapton! It was definitely an ego boost.

Then I was strumming the Allman Bros' Melissa before class the other night, trying to arpeggiate it the way Hodge does in his lesson. My instructor walked in and said, What a great way to play Melissa!

Score!

And congrats! :D

Yeah, I think it is important to remember the little victories. Learning can be so frustrating at times that you almost have to remember that you are making progress, even if it doesn't seem like it.

I am lucky. I normally practice while she's at work. Lately though (and after some good advice here) I've been playing with her home more and I'll even call her in sometimes to listen to something. She's pretty honest about my playing, so I always appreciate her opinion. Just the other night I was jamming with a buddy and she came in and sat down and listened to us for awhile. A simple "sounds really good, you're getting a lot better" was all I got, but it was enough. 'Course she also bought my first guitar for me, so needless to say she is very supportive of my new, expensive hobby. :D

Whoa...what about when the whole neighbourhood comes telling you to turn it down? Or when your own mother comes in the room screaming "Why waste your money on expensive headphones when you don't even use them?!!"? I must be the best there is! :D
