That neck tint thing is getting my gears turning. I love my Mexi Strat but the really bright tinted neck kinda bugged me.

The shoe polish didn't do anything to the feel at all? This reminded me of a laquer tweed oboe case my mom had. She did the same thing to give it a vintage tint. It was allready old to begin with, but still...

Hey thanks again y'all! 8)

The shoe polish didn't do anything to the feel at all?

Not really, but it did spend quite a few minutes really wiping it down with a cotton rag. It developed a semi-glossy shine, but that went away after playing a little bit. I noticed a slight waxiness on the back of the neck on first day, but haven't since.

Also on the fretboard, you can see some dullness where I've played, but other areas retain some shine. This isn't the prettiest, but it definitely looks more "played in." I'll wipe it down again next time I change strings.

How'd I miss this topic? That guitar is beautiful. Great job, best '51 I've seen.

 Just noticed the date of the original post. Before I joined GN so that explains why I haven't seen it before.

Still a nice job.

Do you still have it?

Same guitar, different look:

It now has an alnico strat pup in the neck and a GFS "Mean 90" in the bridge. I simplified the wiring too; dual concentric for the volume/tone and a simple LP-style toggle switch. I'll have to take some updated pics.

Cheers!

Ah! I've seen the pics of the Belair incarnation before. Very nice.

The fogs lifting. It's becoming clear now.

You do a very thorough professional job when you do a mod don't you?
