Hi there. I was hoping someone here could shed some light on a problem with my base. When I first plug in it works fine (although sometimes the sound comes off as a little distorted). Anyway, 20-30 minutes into playing the pick ups stop working and start making a loud rhythmic tapping noise. At first I thought the amp may be blown but another bass works fine on it. Also, I plugged my base (with a different chord) into another amp and the same problem persisted. I've noticed that when it starts I can just unplug the chord from the base and plug it back in and it stops for another couple minutes.

For what its worth, the bass is an Ibanez Sound Gear with active pickups. Also, the battery is relatively knew (about one month).

Hope the problem isn't too serious and hopefully I can fix it myself.

Thanks,

Josh

I'd try another battery.
Some active pickup systems are rather picky about their batteries.

Also, you do unplug the cable from the guitar when you aren't using it, right? That shuts off the pickup circuit power, and saves the battery.
