I just put a new pre-wired pickguard on my Strat-I soldered the wires to the input jack and ground to the bridge-the connections are good-I have adjusted the pickup height on all 3 pickups-i get tons of noise when I'm plugged in-if I turn down the tone knob-in some positions it gets quiet.
Can anyone help me? :D
thanks,
Ken

I'm not sure if I'm too late but thought I'd give you my experience over the weekend.
I've just finished making a Tele Custom copy out of solid mahogany and couldn't wait to plug it in! Oh, dear, I got a buzz which went away when I turned down the tone knob. I searched the t'internet but could only find earthing problems which I knew were ok.
I disassembled the wired parts in turn but still the buzz was there. I eventually had the guitar lead stuck into the bare input jack - quiet. I attached a wire of over 3" to this and the buzz came back!
I went back to the wiring diagram on Fender.com and found there should be a solder joint on the input jack tip wire.
I rewired the thing and added the solder joint. The wires should not touch so I kept them apart about 2mm and put loads of solder around them. Hey presto, fixed.
I'm not an electrician but it must be a resistance thing!
Hope this might help.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply-I had it fixed-my connections to the input jack were bad.I had a pro do it:)and its working great now.
I had hesitated to reply to this in the first place as I suspected user error and didn't want to be critical. Shame on me! Sorry ....
