i've been using my bro's les paul for awhile, and i left it at my bandmate's place for a couple days, where he apparently dropped it when the strap came off. anyway, i was using it in practice and halfway through practice i noticed that the seventh fret c on the low e string was not playing. it sounds like a c#, so the fret is apparently not playing at all. i don't know how to fix this problem, although raising the action is what i'm thinking. the fret doesn't look damaged or worn down at all, and there aren't any problems anywhere else.
You did tune it first, didn't you?
If it was easy it wouldn't be worth doing.
What i would do is go to a guitar workshop, take the Les Paul with you, ask them to have a look, and give you some advice. They'd do that for free, and you'll get some pretty decent advice! That's what i did when the frets on my guitar got damaged! It's worth it! and free.
Good Luck,
Leo
