yummy. but no. I am finishing up a lap steel project and just finished the soldering.
sure enough, when I plugged in I got a bad hum. so I know my ground choice was not good.
so I went the traditional route and soldered to the back of the pot (tone pot).
the cap is also grounded on the back of the same pot.
the pickup is grounded somewhere else, and I bet my hum could be there.

my question. besides the hum, when I touched the tone pot it made loud buzzing noises...
zzzt zzzt. zzzzt then quiet when I took my finger away.

this never happened before.
did I fry the pot when I twice soldered the grounds to the back?

or the pot is fine and I have a major ground problem?

oh, I wired a single coil. easy stuff. typical wiring routes.

helloooooo. echo echo.
thanks Gman.
well, things got worse. I soldered new grounds, both vol and tone. the vol ground is on the back of the vol pot. the jack and cap are grounded to the back of the tone pot. quick little solders. clean. no burning.
now, I have some volume, but the vol control does not work. the hum is still there, but the tone pot is quiet until I touch it. then it makes huge zzzt noises.
I sure messed things up. next I go back to square one. I will pull the pots and recheck all the wiring.
it will be hard because they are inside the hollow body and I only have an access plate I made in the back. it will be tight going. rats.
