Hey guys,
I just acquired a guitar that had some dye on the fretboard. I found this out because I would get black fingertips after playing. It has spread to the binding around the fretboard. I have successfully cleaned the dye off the fretboard, but I don't know what to do about the binding. Does anyone out there have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I would really seek some professional advice as I have the feeling that it may well have bled into the binding, in other words its not just on the surface.
I would hate to recommend something that might just damage your guitar.

Those who can't dance always blame the band.
000 steel wool. I have used that on old beater guitars to remove the grime from fretboards. it polishes the frets too. then I wipe it down real well to remove any steel linty bits. then I reoil. looks great.
the black you have is fretboard dye. it is used on inexpensive guitars to liven up crappy fretboard wood. they call it ebonizing.
ooh.
Thank you both for your replies. I tried the steel wool and it worked like a charm. The binding is now white again, as it should be!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
