Howdy Guys, Do to a hand injury, I am not going to be able to play for awhile.

Might be a couple of months until I can use them, will it be better to leave the strings tight and in tune, or back them off.

Thanks in advance
Bill

keep the instrument in the case away from an outside wall this winter. that's about all I do.since I have too many guitars to play all the time thee are several that just sit. I dont worry about string tension at all.
when I do revisit and tune up I often find the strings either flat or sharp.
never had a problem with neck or body warping.
our guitars are built like tanks. it is the very quick extreme environment changes that cause quick expansion and contraction. that is when problems start.
but the gradual changes that occur do no harm.

your injury however demands good physical therapy. hope you have good results.
your instruments will be ready and healthy for you.

just thought of something. with my resonator if it is tuned higher than normal (A from G). the manufacturer recommends detuning to the lower tuning. but that is with a resonator.

ive been told to loosen the strings if it's gonna be inactive. maybe just tune down a step or so to let it sit. and i second the thoughts on leaving it in a case and away from outside walls. keep that baby humidified and it'll be perfect
