Guitar Wiring Problem

I have an electric guitar with a 2 humbucker pickups, 1 volume, 1 tone, 3way toggle pickup selector.

For some reason, the guitar wouldn't make any sound when plugged into an amp. I opened it up to check the wiring and resoldered some wires. To find out the possible cause of the problem, i plugged it into an amp. Here's what i found out:

1. When i touch the volume pot, it makes a noise.
2. When i touch both ends of the 3way toggle pickup selector, the guitar pickups suddenly work.

I'm not sure what the problem is here since i'm new in guitar wiring. :D Some advice and help would be very much appreciated Thanks!
