I was tuning my acoustic today and for some reason my A string wont get loose. It's stuck at a B and won't get flat
When you turn the knob on the tuning machine does the post turn? If it doesn't turn is it open backed (can you see the gears)? Are they turning? If it's not open backed (and probably even if it is) and the post isn't turning it may mean new tuners.
If the post is turning then perhaps the string is caught in the nut - loosen the string at the tuner and give the string a little tug. You might be able to just use a bit of graphite in the nut slot to keep it moving or you may need to get the slot smoothed out if it's rough.
