I have a strat wired with the stock neck pickup and a dimarzio hot rail type pickup in the bridge. It has a three way fender type switch,a volume pot and nothing else. When I tap on the body even with the strings muted a loud hum like feedback occurs. This pickup is very hot and I play through a dual rec and two Marshall cabs and not quietly. Is there too much gain present, or could it have to do with incorrect wiring or the lack of a tone pot?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you are talking about microphonics. the pickup picks up any sound ariound it and amplifies it.
very normal, but not as noticable or less 'hot' pups.

a frien plays a violin with a pup inside. he can speak into the sound hole and hos voice comes out the amp.

I have a strat. wehen I tap on the gaurd I can hear it where I tap and from deeper inside.
it isnt very loud or terrible.

I wonder if shielding will reduce yours.
at the least you may have to fool with your setings on both the guitar and amp to find a nice sweet spot.

An EQ pedal would probably help to find the particular frequency that is feeding back on you. Then you could slightly cut this frequency to eliminate the feedback.
