I may have asked this question before but i have a blue S/S/H (2 single coil, one humbucker) electric guitar and i was thinking of turning it into a dual humbucker guitar and painting it black, OR making it 3 single with a really nice sunburst finish but i'm a bit scared too. I have no problems in changing the pickup style, even if i has to reroute the body. My only concern is painting the guitar, I suppose I could give it to a professional but i really wouldn't want to spend anymore then $150 on the entire project. Does anyone have any ideas? I like the feel of the guitar and all that except i just feel like giving it a different look and a different sound.

If you take your time it shouldn't be too hard. It's mostly going to be lots of sanding and light coats of paint. As for price I couldn't even guess what supplies will cost you.

Do you have a spare to play while you're doing the mods? I know I would not want to be w/o a guitar to play for any length of time.

It is a small world for metal fanatics. I welcome you fellow musicians, especially the metalheads!

Have you considered humbuckers that fit into a single coil slot?

The next step would be to consider what you want for electronics.
For instance, adding a pull out knob to switch from single to humbucker.
Some also add a switch for out of phase wiring.

Here's a pretty good site for wiring.

Wish I'd seen the Guitartech site before I did my mod. That site rocks!

I don't want anything fancy, I'm just not a big fan of the colour and the pickup combination, i guess i either want to change it into a double humbucker, metal style guitar or into a 3 single strat style one.
