At times (most times), I'm just not getting the sound I like, I'm not sure what would be best for me to do first. I've thought about changing the pickups, but I know if I add pedals I can modify the feed going into the amp giving me different sounds whenever I want, or I guess I could save up and get a new base for the setup (new amplifier).
Right now I mostly play with a stock B.C. Rich Virgin Plat. (mostly stock, nothing electrical), I run either though a Peavey Rage 158 or a Peavey Studio 112 with no pedals.
So if you could start back out from scratch, would you run new pickups first, get a good amp, or buy pedals. Right now I'm mostly playing slow rock or stuff out of the 50s-70s.

There's your guitar, discontinued and very nice. I believe it has hot & dirty pickups.
You could fuss, and mess with a treble bleed set up on your volume pot, reducing pickup output, while turning up the amp on a clean setting, or simply go for a set of sweet Alnico II's such as these, or Seymour Duncan (Slash's fave) if you wish.

Your amp is fine, especially the 112, but again, that guitar seems rather hot to me, for your target sounds.

I have tried in my way to be free.
Hmmm, alright I'll go ahead and give those a shot first. Would it be best to buy a pair of the same pickups?
Thanks for the input!

Yes, I believe that GFS would make a good "set". I haven't tried them, though. I noticed they are sold individually.
They will be marked "neck" and "bridge", well balanced, slightly different specs, the bridge is a little hotter, see link below.

The wires may be different colored, and certainly longer for the neck. When installed, you can adjust the height to your liking.
And I would think, but am not positive, that the string spacing, or pole to pole measurement will be just a little wider at the bridge.
