I has one semiacoustic guitar which is great playing. It's easy to barre, and get clean tones. But on the electric it's harder to play barres (much harder), and it sounds worse. Could it be the setup? Both guitares are aprox 10 years old. Any hints, tips, clues or experiences would be greatly apreciated :)

It could be the setup, the amount of wear on the the frets, the age (and/or gauge) of the strings, the radius of the fretboard...

Other clues might help point you in the right direction - what kind of guitars are they?

Both are cheap imports.

Probe and samick.

What do I do to check if it's the setup which is wrong?

Nils' page will give you a good place to start...

I checked the length between the strings and the fretboard at the seventh fret, and it was 3.5 mm on the electric, and 1 mm on the acoustic. I do not know what's regular...

If I have my conversions right...

The 3/64 on Nils page is approx 1mm (for the thin strings)
So your acoustic is a little low (if it's playing fine don't touch it)

Your 3.5mm on the electric is closer to 8/64. That seems rather high.

Could someone please double check my conversions!
