Now I'm the kind of guy who has trouble changing a light bulb. I am a software developer so my wife usually jokes that I can't fix anything around the house because "It's a hardware problem".
Thanks to all the info found on GN and this forum, I lemon oiled the fretboard on my new Squier 51, changed the strings for a new set of D'Addario 10's, and set the intonation. Now granted, I did break the first string I tried to put on. But I just bought another set and kept right on going. It turned out rather nice, and there's just something special about doing it yourself.
Now about those light bulbs. . .

Dwayne - don't let your wife know about this, or she'll soon be coming up with lists of things around the house for you to fix. :)

Congrats. Definitely a nice feeling with that first success.
who needs light bulbs.
maintaining your own gear is the intimicy I enjoy. when major tech issues arise I use a pro, but the regular stuff is just part of being a musician.
getting to know your instrument is a good thing.
