Does anyone have any info, sugestions, or enlightenment on using rare-earth magnets as a clamping device for crack repair of accoustic guitar bodies?
Where can you get them, are they expensive, can "normal" magnets be used instead?
Any info or websites will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

the only important properties of rare earth magnents which you will need is that they are very very very strong and will hoild your things in place very well. do a google on them, i'm sure they're very common and you should be able to pick them up nearby.

Be very, very careful handling them. It's easy to hurt yourself.

yes. I remember from highschool physics when the class clown decided to make an earring for himself.
We thought it was funny, but he sure didn't :)

Oh, and keep them away from your computers, especially laptops! If they get close enough to your hard drives, they can corrupt your data.

I use the one I have to threaten my brother if he start annoying me. I keep it stuck to a lamp in my room, and I say 'See that magnet? Wanna find it stuck on your harddrive in the morning? Yeah, I thought so.'.

Not that it's really on the subject, but just something to be aware of...

It'll wipe credit cards, too.

...ditto monitors, CRT ones at least. Yeah, it's great fun to make the image swirl and change colours, but too close and the colours will stay like that no matter how many times you degauss it.
