removing fret board from a broken neck

how would a person do this to try to save the brazilian rosewood fret board? can the glue be released somehow?

You can't really save the fretboard. Removing it will usually ruin it. I guess you could shave down the neck until only the fretboard is left, but it's much easier to just replace the whole thing.

Removing fretboards is actually a common repair activity, Paul - every time somebody breaks a truss rod it's got to come off and go back on.

One question: What's broken so badly that you want to toss the neck? If the truss rod, then, yes, fingerboard has to come off anyway (as mentioned by Noteboat) but this is repairable. Also, many times a cracked neck or snapped headstock is actually repairable even without removing the 'board -- and this would be much easier than finding a replacement set neck (I'm assuming this from your other thread).

I misread; I thought that was about removing fretboards to save a neck. I was sure I'd heard somewhere that they couldn't be removed well, but evidently I (and my source) was wrong.
