'evening folks.

I'm buying a new guitar in the summer, and so I want to turn one of my current guitars, my Squier Strat, into a bit of a 'personal' guitar, that is - modify it, decorate a custom pickguard etc, just because its my first guitar, and I really quite like it and want it look cool! (how vain am I! :D).

Anyways, first stop on this journey would be reshaping the neck, but im not sure whether part of the neck not warping etc is down to the weight of it, and whether cutting/filing it would affect that in any way?

I shall attatch pics of what I plan to do it my MSPaint skills are up to it!

Cheers,
David

Edit: something like this

You might consider trimming it down to look like a regular Fender headstock, your sketch reminds me of my AXL's headstock, which would then make it a copy of a cheap strat-copy. :D

Life's journey can be hard at times, but you have to realize that you are the only one with the power make it a worthwhile experience.

Does it not already look like a regular Fender headstock? It does to me anyway.

It's a "1970's" headstock, that was introduced to the Strat by CBS and then ditched, again, in favour of the original headstock shape. It seems to have originated on the Jazzmaster and the Jaguar guitars.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

I really like the bigger CBS version, must have been the ones around when I was young(ish) and noticing guitars

Yeah, I was thinking about sanding it off - perhaps you know of a better way though, sanding might affect the finish I expect.

dont worry about the finish. just spray on some lacquer when your done .
maybe you could piant the headstock to match the guitar?
are you painting the guitar body?

Nah, the body has a sunburst finish justnow, with a few dents - its got a bit of a lived in look that I quite like :)

I might paint the head if I can find a suitable color, but not justnow.
