OK…when I shaved down my saddle (and the shaved a bit more when I had to even off the bottom)…now it's a bit lower than what I like. :(

I read about shimming. Some say shim with hardwood. Others say use only metal (like tin or brass). I've read if done correctly, there is no loss of tone.

What's the opinion of the experts here? Metal...hardwood...loss of tone?

I just looked at Nil's page on guitar setup and saw he says hardwood (and better to make a new saddle).

I've now bookmarked this page.

I've also used clay can't remember where I got the instructions from

Chuck Norris invented Kentucky Fried Chicken's famous secret recipe, with eleven herbs and spices. But nobody ever mentions the twelfth ingredient: Fear!

I have heard about that also but heard that it will break down after awhile and can be difficult to clean out properly plus it is hard to get even.

I have also used vinyl siding but did not get the same results as hardwood veneer. I guess because the hardwood is much closer to the composition of the wood of the bridge itself. Unless of course it is a plastic bridge but there aren't many of them around and even then the hardwood seems to work.
