I am buying a new low end Strat knock-off (Tradition G-Series) to use as a travel guitar. I can't stand a guitar that doesn't stay in tune. I'm anticipating having to replace the tuners. Any suggestions?

If you REALLY dont want it to go out of tune then get some locking tuners, a nice nut, and a hardtail bridge. New tuners should be enough though.

I am going to be getting some myself and I like the looks of these sperzels or these planet waves.

Tuners usually are not the problem with guitars not staying in tune. You would be money ahead getting a good set up instead. Most tuners on low priced guitars are OK at least for a few years. Tuners work or they don't work. I would spend the $ on upgrading the pickups if anything :D Just MHO--the dog

I only plan to use it for travel, so maybe I'll just let it ride and see how satisfied I am with it before dumping a bunch of extra money into it.

I like the idea about the pickups, but I only play through my Tascam Guitar Trainer with headphones while in the hotels. I would hate to annoy the other guests. But the sound isn't all that great out of this thing anyway.

Thanks.

Usually it's a poor winding job on the tuners that cause you trouble or temperature changes.
