Dylan, it's been a long time since you post a video! Can't wait

Hi guys and gals and fellow beginners everywhere...
This may not be the moment you've all been waiting for, but you're going to get it anyway...
My latest video. I have to say that it was really inspired by Ken who rose to the challenge of learning Stairway to Heaven which I thought was a bit of a mammoth task - I was correct in that assumption. But for all you beginners that post your vids unashamedly - rock on!
I hope Ken will post a vid of him playing Stairway now we've dragged him kicking and screaming into the video world..
I have just got back from four...or was it five...days away from my beloved six string (d'ya know, I haven't even got a name for her yet - hmmmmmm, I'll think on that one...) and I couldn't believe how bad my first attempts at playing again after such a short time away could be - the vid is actually the first take in front of the camera - okay, okay - but it's the best excuse and I'm sticking to it....
I know I said I've probably been practising for five hours but I'm really not sure - seems like an age but I just can't get the transitions right even if I play it slowly - I have played the other bits better 'off camera' but the first three notes then down the fret for the next are killers...
Anyways - enjoy the vid, feel my pain, but always...
Rock on friends..!

Oh yes, sorry about the quality - don't know what happened there - I'll try and sort it for the next one...

It's good for a first attemp after 1 week without playing! Keep working on it and try to upload the same song in 2 weeks, you'll see the difference!
And I think it's more difficult to play barre chords on an accoustic guitar... I'm not the same when I play Stairway on an accoustic, I don't seem to put enough pression on the string while doing my barre ans it often sounds bad... :?
Much easier for me on an electric :)
Rock on

Hey, I'm on record as saying projected learning of that song is 2010. That's years, not military time!
Don't look for a vid from me any time soon. LOL
I'm still working on the first 4 bars.
You did the WHOLE intro! Great!
I'll do what I did for HOTRS. Try to forget the arpeggios at first. Although it's tempting to play it because that's where the melody is and the melody is beautiful. I'll just work on making the transitions from one chord to the other trying to decrease the time to finger the chord. My hand has a tendency to cramp though. My left would cramp even before I started playing the guitar though. Potassium shortage? Who knows?
Ever wonder how the writer of the song came up with these fingerings? I think they have to be part masochist and then part sadist. Masochist in that they torture themselves to come up with these sequence of notes and then sadist in thinking "I dare someone else to do that!" LOL
Anyway, thanks for the video. Always good to hear from (and see) you.
Too bad we don't have Clau20 to give us lessons. That would be fun.

Haha
It's good that you concentrate on the first 4 barre chords, but if I can give you an advice... Before trying to switch chords position, you should try to get the barre chord before. (maybe some teacher will disagree with me? , but that's how I learned it fast)
Practice the melody of the first barre chord over and over, whithout thinking of the other.
E-------5-7-----7-|
B-----5-----5-----|
G---5---------5---|
D-7-------6-------|
A-----------------|
E-----------------|
Play this over and over... Your index will stay on the 5th fret and you'll get use to it. Your bare chord will be more effective after that and you could start to think about the other barre chords.
That's usually how I learn a song. Take a short part and repeat it over and over until I get it right. Boring? Yeah, but it seems I save so much time like that :D

Hi all.
Ok Ken, yep, I did see the disclaimer...ok, 2010 but the whole song ok?
I quite often think about the musicians that actually composed all these songs that we are crucifying. They're certainly a special kind of animal that's for sure. I'm looking forward to putting some music to my songs, but I'll probably use the usual G, F, Ds and Es to start with - hey, it worked for Bob so it's good enough for me...
Thanks for the tips Claudine - I'll work on those for a week and probably post a quick, no-frills vid of how it's all worked out next week.
Rock on!
