Heyo

Yes, not more Clapton. It's true. Mr. Carlos Santana. I've known the intro to this song for about a year, finally learned the rest of it recently. Put some wah into the verses, thought it sounded cool, and the solo as well. I'm pretty happy with this on the whole, maybe not the ending, but what can ya do.

Let me know what you all think, all criticisms and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

Tasocles.

*EDIT*
Uhh..I forgot to give you all the link.

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/3/tasomusic.htm

Probably should click LO FI. But it may work on High, I don't know.

EDIT NUMBER 2:

I put a version with vocals on the site. I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to improve the singing. Pinball Wizard went virtualy unanswered, so I'm trying again here. Thanks guys!

Taso.

So I listened to it. So:

-your singing ain't that bad. Heck, I know some amateur bands around that could really use your voice.

-Love the wah parts you put under the singing.

-The solo's are quite a bit different in play style from Santana, but they fit in so no prob.

A few minor pointers:
-The timing of the intro riff is off.
-The bends tend to be somewhat out of tune at times.

Don't forget I'm judging this from behind my pc, totally sober and on my own, so I tend to be rather critical. If you were playing this in a bar where I would be with some mates then you would receive a well-earned applause. Keep on going!

Holy cow, I believe thats the first generally "Well done response" I've gotten. Thank you very much for the reply Mr. Arjen

Yes, that intro for me was a real pain timing wise. What you heard was the revised version, the first couple of times the timing was terrible. Can't say I notice it though on the version you heard, can you be more specific ?

Bends were out of tune. Absolutly. I really notice this towards the begining, where I bend 13, then 15, and then 17 and then go back to 10 (all on High E) and it is irrating to me. I don't really notice it much elsewhere, just a bit, but yeah, those 3 were really bad (especially because they are significant bends). I beleive i was slightly out of tune for the whole thing, I forgot to tune up before I started it... (Feel stupid now, but oh well)

I'm considering redo-ing those 3 bends, because its so obviously out of tune.

My "singing ain't that bad"... That pretty much made my night. Haha, thanks. I think it works for this song, but not many others.

My goal would be to get it perfect enough, so that when I'm in a bar, my nerves will bring it down to this level.

Thanks for the reply Arjen.

Any further comments/suggestions/critcisms are welcome :)

Timing is still a bit of an issue. Vocals could still use some honing as well. It's a good Idea to just try to play and sing along with the song. I liked your solo. It's nice 'cause it's original and you didn't butcher Santana's solo like I would've. the improvement though is quite impressive since Layla. Keep pluggin' away at it. Soon you'll be critiquing the old fogies here....and me too(hehe).

Thanks for the reply hueseph,

Yeah, I didn't (and still don't) know the words to this song without reading them from a lyrics thing. Maybe memorizing them before hand would work better. I was singing with the actual song though while I was recording it.

Layla was pretty bad, but thanks ;)

Thanks for the reply Hue

Any further critcisms, suggestions, comments are welcome.

Love,
Taso

Yeah, I do need headphones good call with that.

You can get the backing track at http://www.guitarbt.com

I'm not using a modulator. Les Paul > Vox Wah > t.c. electronic chorus pedal > hot rod deluxe, thanks for the compliment.

Yeah, I gotta try singing louder I guess, thanks very much for the response Muchavo

Taso.

Yeah, I noticed these tube amps are getting closer and closer to modelers every day. Can't be long before tube amps will finally sound like a POD or V-amp...

I'm not sure muchavo. It's probably mainly the amp, but a little of hte guitar too. Les Pauls are known for good sustain..Maybe I've gotten used to it, cause I can't really see what your talking about. It doesn't compare to Santana's sustain, but then again, his equiment is worth over 6 grand probably. Where as mine comes in at a measly 2 and a half. So to answer your question, I don't really know what it is exactly. The only other amp I've played this guitar with was my 15w practice amp, and I can't remember how the sustain was on that.
