So I take it you have declined to butcher Skei.Karpe :?: :?
Nope. But this thing fights together with the GN project and my own tracks for time. Will get to it within 24 hours, hopefully tonight. And after that the list is open again. Sorry for the massive delay but that's life. :)
I've noticed you've been busy. I was just curious.
a man of mystery. :)
Cringe - Skei.Karpe
Usually when I play this for someone I get the deer in the headlights look or what the f#*! was that.
The quote with which this was posted really made me wonder what kind of weird freaky stuff this was going to be, but to spoil the secret: Skei.karpe is a pretty mainstream pop-rock tune, and not a bad one at that. So let's take a closer look at it. The prodcution of this song is fairly okay but it does seem to suffer from the 'guitarist-syndrome': the guitar parts are very loud and drown out the drums and the low end of the sound. This takes away part of the strength and drive this song potentially has to offer, but it's easy to fix. The actual sounds and pretty impressive for a home-recording, great distorted tones, thick sustain, nothing to complain. The drum samples seem to be okay as well, they just need to be louder.
The vocals are pretty good if you ask me, nice use of harmoniesm good melodies, pretty easy to hear. The guitar is performed perfectly fine as well, parts of it reminded me heavily of the early Radiohead songs as found on Pablo honey. As for fun-factor: it's a tad bit, well, 'whiney' in a sense. I think it's partly because so many syllables are stretched out for too long, if you're a bit more sparse with that it would really speed up the song in a sense. For the rest it's a good song, if I'd hear it on the radio I'd stay on that channel.
[score]
Originality: Not that original, not that un-original either. 2/3
Production: Lower the guitar a bit, give me some strong drums and you're set. 3.5/5
Performance: Not overly virtuosic but no show-stoppers, I could easily pretend this to be a pro band to my non-musician friends. 7.5/10
Fun-factor: Nothing that'll make me start a cult about it but it's solid and enjoyable track. 7.5/10
Final score: A well-recommended pop-rock track with a few drops of alternative rock. 70%
Okay folks, it's all done. The list is open for those who woudl like their tracks reviewed, first ten entrances are in. :)
i want to write a dong just to get it reviewed here!
In fact count me in as number one for the next batch and i'll come up with something. it will be my first written song....
Glad to see this thread open again.
I always felt that most of us here at GN can be a little too
nice in reviewing other peoples songs. I'm not afraid of an
honest critique and I respect your opinion so count me in.
I would like to submit my latest recording of an SSG song titled Stray Cat Blues
It's gotten some good reviews but have at it.

OK, here is another tune I did with Paul Brady. Its not your fathers smokindog tune :D

Well... thanks, that was more positive than I expected. :o
I agree the mix could stand some tweaking. The drums are real but so far I'm finding drums really hard to record well.
I would like your input on ' factorygirl'. I have not learned editing and and am just beginning my mixing.
with your greater experience of recording I would appreciate your critique and any suggestion.
I took a well know Rolling Stone song and altered it's genre a nudge.
flat picking one of my favorites.
I would be curious to see what you think of Riga. I've Recieved Some pretty good responses from people I know but I would like to hear an opinion from someone more distant and objective.

This one is called 3 months.
I recorded the vocals when I had a cold, but my vocals suck anyway.

One chord is fine.
Two you're pushing it.
Three and you're into jazz.
I've got another for ya: Monday Morning Lament
Playing guitar and never playing for others is like studying medicine and never working in a clinic.
