Junkie Blues
II was making my way through New York City
it was late and after dark
Was meeting some friends of mine who play guitar
we was gonna jam in the park
So I see this cat in front of me kinda slung low
and walking funny
He steps in my way and looks at his feet and says
"Hey man, you got any money?"
He said, "I need the bread to feed my head and my girl
she aint got no clothes"
And I dont feel right sitting here at night telling people about my woes"
Chorus
I said, "I aint got time to listen to you whine
I've only got 5 bucks so don't make me choose
Got a beer and coupla strings, wanna make this guitar sing.
So don't tell me 'bout no junkie blues"
So he took a step back and he looked at me and said
"Hey man, I understand.
We all have dreams that we are running from and for you its starting a band"
So I looked at him with surprise in my eyes because he didn't know what he was saying
I said, "Starting a band just aint in my plans
You see, I'm just happy playing"
He said, "What you can't see is you're just like me
'cept the drugs...they aint the same
So stop looking around cuz there's no help to be found
and you're the only one to blame
Cuz I can pick up that guitar and show you what I got and put all your friends to shame
I said, "I aint got time to listen to you whine
I've only got 5 bucks so don't make me choose
Got a beer and coupla strings, wanna make this guitar sing.
So don't tell me 'bout no junkie blues"
So I gave the guy my last 5 bucks
cuz it was clear the cat could play
And I asked if he'd like to come join my friends and I
but said "Hey man, I can't stay"
So I picked up my guitar and strapped it on my back
and I realized he broke some strings
and you see a guy like me just aint prepared for these kinds of things
And I made my way back down the street and i saw some guy in a siut with his arm around a honey
So I stepped in his way and I looked at my feet and I said "Hey man, you got any money"
You see I broke my strings and I NEED these things if I want to go jam in the park
I said, I know it late but I'm playing it straight I wouldn't ask for money after dark
He said "I got no time to listen to you whine
I've only got 5 bucks so don't make me choose. You've got a beer and NO strings so you can't make that guitar sing..so don't tell me 'bout no junkie blues"

Good job, Matt.
Very entertaining.
I had fun listening to it.
It sounds like you had fun making that song.
I was reading the lyrics as you sang.
You added more lyrics to it which made it even more interesting.
Thanks for the song.
I enjoyed it.
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
Yeah man, that was awesome. You gots da skills, man. Did you do another take on the solo? I didn't go back and listen to compare. It sounds as if it was played with more conviction. Really great song. So, was that phone voice a real live recording of the ex?
My contributions were minimal and in an altered state. You're making me blush.
Great stuff again. I liked it as much as "I Promise". (speaking of which, done any more work on it?)

Thanks for the listen Ken! Yes, I had alot of fun making this song. I"ll have to fix the lyrics. Thanks for catching that!
Roy- I did a second take on the solo to fix a few weak part but it is largel in part the original take. The phone part...LOL!
I tell ya what, I was cracking up when I did that. I had to do it a few times because I was laughing. Thanks again for giving me feedback. It was your vision that helped me find the lyrics. I've not done anything with I Promise. Strange you ask, I was just thinking about what to do with that little demo tonight. I think it deserves to be done to its potential.
BTW...as you can tell, I'm not the greatest at doing leads. BUT, reading David's article on Turning Scales Into Solos REALLY helped me. So I figured I'd put it to use on this one. :D

wow
That is awesome
Well done , I am going to down load that and listen to it at work , I like this a lot
Trev,,,
Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am
Very good :!: I like narrative-type songs. So the song is good and the performance is excellent. I'll come back and listen to this.
Keep'em coming!

Nice song and nice history! :D
Thanks for sharing.
Great tune. Lyrics are excellent. Voice is just right. Don't worry about the leads, they'll come with practice, mean time just play 'em with feeling and don't apologize. Sounds great. (If I could write lyrics and sing like that, I wouldn't sweat the geetar at all.)
This was very cool!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't turn it off... Some serious story telling talent indeed...

yeah man. great song. add a street sounds track. put a mike outside the window.
the song has a terrific feel and tempo. the FX on the chorus vocal was startling the first time.
keep playing this song when practicing. I know by doing that I 'get to know' the song in a deeper way.
the song gets legs or something.
that's when ideas for leads, fills, etc, begin to come out.
I too like the directness of the recording. the vox track stands forward.
good rhythm . the acoustic sounds nice.
Thanks fellas! Glad you enjoyed it.
You know db, I was thinking about adding street sounds here and there but thought it might be too cheesy. Also thought about adding a phone dialing effect prior to the little "phone conversation" at the end. I'll play around with it to see if it adds value.
BTW, JWMartin asked if he could add a drum track to this. Should be interesting to see ho wthat tunrs out. 8)
