a few weeks ago my jamming mates and I were playing loud and long. we were running through our play list. that consists of songs we have jammed on for the last twenty plus years. one song flows into another for hours on end. it is so much fun.
half the time we make a mess of the song. we don't stop to rehearse. we're jamming. not time to stop.
after a short break we picked up our guitars and this old Buffalo Springfield song came out. we never played it before.
we knew the lyrics and most of the chord changes. then we got to the lead break and there were two chord changes we didn't know. we played through it and moved on to another Neil Young song.
well, that song stuck with me. I wanted to know what those two chords were. with a bit of youtube I figured it out. I liked them so much I repeated the phrase. it differs from the original, but I hope it has the same feel.
for better or worse.
here it is.

thanks for the listen and feedback. Wes, I did all the parts on this. my buddies live a few hundred miles away.
yeah, after our jam I needed to know this song.

this recording is a little rough. I need to fine tune it more.

dogbite, you said this was a rough recording - nothing sounded rough about it to me, it was well polished.

also, a great job on the vocals to, this song really suited your voice.
what did you play the lead on, i know you also play lap steel, was that what you used or a normal guitar?

"I like to play that guitar. I have to stare at it while I'm playing it because I'm not very good at playing it."

to have this song fit my vocal comfort range I tuned down from standard to E flat. I play my 80's strat plus.
three guitar tracks; one clean, one with dirt and one for the lead. there I used my tubescreamer plugged straight in.
drum and bass on vst instruments.
the voice was different here. I found I had to step away from the mike and belt it out. the other songs I have done I was able to stand closer to the mike and sing softer.
the rough I mention is my mix. I am not totally happy with it. but hey, I'm learning.
and thanks for listening and taking the time to post.

I didn't know the song and Neil Young is not between my favorite artists, in fact I never listened with attention his songs.

It seems I have to do it.

Thanks again for showing a new band to me.

And also thanks for sharing your recordings and thoughts!

My mind is wandering, I already heared this long ago but somehow didnt reply. Anyway: I love this song but only knew the unplugged version. I have no idea how close you follow the original but it's great regardless, has some Stones elements there to my ears. Oh, been listening to your soundclick radio for a while, starting to become quite an enjoyable collection!

I appreciate the postive support for all of you. I burned a CD of my soundclick songs and went on a long road trip. sitting isolated and listening to myself, I just cringed. I did hear improvement in my singing and guitar but the physical act of recording remains difficult. I created some clinkers or goofs. I move forward.
I am having so much fun I can't sit still.

I think you are also improving your mixes. The last ones are absolutely clear and you can listen perfectly each instrument. It is not easy and your are doing a great work. You are also showing how it can be done. I think it is a perfect example of 'learn by doing' (I remember you use a similar expression some time ago).

But the most important (IMHO) is you are having fun!

I only just found this and wish i could sing like that. Your voice really suited the song. I cant give you any advise on your singing, playing, recording or mixing but what I can say is through my coumputer speakers (cheapish Sony ones) it sounds like a proffessional recording. Its inspired me to go search for a tab.

hey thanks Jase36. three years without a cigarette has my voice getting better.
like a guitar, I am still learning how it works.
Buffalo Springfield were great. a lot to glean from them.

I listened to this a couple weeks ago, but never commented. I think I went straight from listening to trying something out on guitar and got was from then on, sidetracked.

Anyhow, I loved it. I love Neil Young stuff. Hey, now you know about 1/8th of "Broken Arrow". :)

Nice job especially on that instrumental section mid way. That really flowed and rocked.

That opening riff similar to to "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" by the Stones? I never noticed that before. Not sure why.

2 thumbs, way up high! 8) 8)
