Hi everyone

Would you mind taking a listen to one of my songs – Distant Voice – at my soundclick page at the link below

http://www.soundclick.com/util/streamM3U.m3u?ID=2299056&q=Hi

Your comments and views are most welcome on all areas (guitars, vocals, lyrics, melody / harmonies, dynamics etc)

Cheers

Lyrics
Once I would hear all the doubters in my mind
She saw the dream that I had deep inside
In this reality I saw the picture of my life

From the distant sun I heard your name

Where the truth lies beyond I could hear your distant voice as far as the sun
Where the truth lies beyond I can hear your distant voice as clear as the sun
As the truth lies beyond

I heard her calling from far away
The night is falling I found the way

From the distant sun I heard your name

Where the truth lies beyond I could hear your distant voice as far as the sun
Where the truth lies beyond I can hear your distant voice as clear as the sun
As the truth lies beyond

I like the guitar work. Well executed, and the parts have a nice build tension/release that I like.

The major issue I hear is that the vocals sound, well, distant. They need to be much more up front and "in your face" to mix well with the guitar sounds.

Dunno what you're using for recording, but here's some suggestions for the vocal mix.

1) Kill the reverb on the vox almost completely. You can leave a bit, but just enough to notice if you a/b with a dry track. If you want a "spacier" sound, try using flange, chorus, or short delays. Reverb makes things sound far away.

2) If you used a condensor mic for the vocals, consider re-tracking with a dynamic (like an SM-57), and get up close to make good use of proximity effect.

3) Do a "whisper track" - instead of singing, whisper the vocals and mix this in so (like the reverb) you don't notice it until it's not there. This can help add some definition and "fat" to the vox.

Playing guitar and never playing for others is like studying medicine and never working in a clinic.

Same as above; good tune, great guitar. But you can barely hear the vocals.

Wouldn't it be great to do this stuff for a living?
