OK, had no computer for a month or so....had to do something.....so I recorded a few of my songs and opened an account on "Soundclick."

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/9/viclewismusic.htm

"That Old Photograph" was written as a Sunday Songwriter's Group (SSG) assignment; I did a version with strummed chords a couple of days after I wrote it, and GN member Smokindog added some nice lead guitar to it... the version here is the original, you can hear his version on his website.....I've also done it as a fingerpicked solo piece (version 2 on this site, which is closer to how I originally envisaged the song in my head.....

"Shelter" was also an SSG assignment.....

"Foggiest Notion" was an old song I dug out and completely re-wrote the lyrics to, keeping the original riff....

"Blink of an Eye" I've posted before, but this is a much improved version with a vocal (I may have a terrible voice but at least I got over my hang-up about singing for the public!)......

"Nothing I Can Do" was written a couple of years ago, never really got round to doing anything with it till now.....thanks to Guitarnoise my guitar playing has improved so much over the last 12 months or so I'm no longer embarrassed at having it heard.....

So give 'em a listen, let me have your honest opinions....but please bear in mind these are all one-take rough demos meant to highlight the songs, not the guitar playing or (especially!!!!) the voice.......

:D :D :D

The songs are great!! My favorite is shelter, but they are all good. You are good at writing melodies also :D . As far as your voice, I think you have a good voice, its very distintive and has a lot of caricature to it, and you sing in key,LOL . Bob Dylan, Johny Cash come to mind, not that you sound like them, but you can listen to them and tell thats who they are-no mistake about it :!: :!: :D :D --the dog

Thank you for posting your songs. My two favourites are Blink of an Eye and That Old Photograph. I agree with smokindog about Johnny Cash coming to mind. I can envisage the video of That Old Photograph something along the lines of Hurt, with obvious differences.

Room stripped to the bare essentials. Old man in collarless shirt, rolled-up sleeves. Old, battered guitar. Fading in and out of the dream-like scene of the young rock star and model. And not forgetting 'that old photograph', leaning up on the mantelshelf - frameless, yellowing and dog-eared.

Lights, camera and action.

I think you have a Bob Dylanish voice. Other than your 1,2,3,4 you would never know you were a brit. :P J/K

I listened to all of them and...... Foggiest Notion blew me away. Great stuff!!!

Shelter didn't last long only because it seamed like everything was going on at once.

Over all, great lyrics.

I don't mean to insult you but, have you ever thought about singing grunge music. I know, I know "are you kidding me" but, you have a great voice for it.

Well I guess Foggiest Notion has a "grunge sound" to it. What do you think. Add an electric with distortion......No?

Again sorry if I'm insulting you. I'm not tring to.

Tracker, no insult taken mate.....but I really don't want to do grunge, I hated Nirvana/Pearl Jam etc and that whole scene.....yes I know my voice is rubbish, I would love to be able to sing like Joe Cocker/Ian Hunter/John Lennon....but that, sadly, will never be....I'll settle for someone else saying, "Hey that's a good rock song"......Joe? Ian? where are you now I need you? I bought all your records......I'd love to go to my grave thinking, "Ah well, I wrote a hit song......"

And I used to do decent versions of "Still Rock'n'roll to me", "Back in the USSR" and "Three Steps to heaven" on Karaoke nights.....

:) :) :)

Vic.....the ever hopeful.....

PS for Brits......did anyone else watch Jools Hollands Hootenanny show on New Years' Eve? Wasn't it great to see Ian Hunter alive and rocking? Ian, where the hell have you been the last 20 years or so man? We could do with some decent new music.....it was fantastic to hear "All The Young Dudes" and "All The way from Memphis" again......and that young Clapton bloke can play a bit as well.....

Like I always say, "take what you have and go with it". You have a great voice and it went with the songs you were singing.

From what I've read from you, you are 6'5" and old (that's what I've sean you write so don't hate me for calling you old). But, if I heard you on the radio or what-ever.......I would say your voice sounds ALOT younger. 30's even.....Go with it, don't hate it!

Yeah, getting on a bit now.....47 and counting....but when it comes to rock'n'roll, I'm still 16....in my head.....that's the great thing about music, it keeps you young....ask Sir Saint Cliff or Sir Paul or Sir Mick (!!!!) if you don't believe me!!!!!!

Monday 24th, going to see Status Quo in Blackpool - re-arranged gig, they were supposed to be playing Dec 17th....they had their first hit in 1968, "Pictures of Matchstick Men"......there's a band that's been going nearly as long as the Stones!..........and am I looking forward to it? You bet!!!!!

My grandkids enjoy my guitar playing....suppose it makes a nice change from Westlife (bet that's the first time they ever got a mention here!) etc...

And the Mrs is happy as long as I play the odd Buddy Holly/Roy Orbison / Beatles song.......

Oh and "Jailhouse Rock" is currently no. 1 in the singles charts over here........

:D :D :D

Hey Vic,

Long time no talk.

These all sound great man. My only beef would be with the sound itself. I just posted one and it completely sucks sound quality wise so dont take this the wrong way but to me, it feels like i need to hear a little more of your voice. The guitar drowns you out a bit. But, other than that, very cool.

Keep it up man.
