Some of you may recognise this, it was a piece of music used for the "Visit Scotland" adverts produced from the Scottish tourist board a few years ago. I personally think it is a beautiful piece of music, but it was written on a combination of a violin and I think perhaps a synthesiser.

Anyway, I had a thought a few hours ago to try and put this together into a guitar based song, so I sat down and worked out the chords, then the lead melody which fits over the top. I fingerpicked the chords and recorded that, then videod and recorded me playing the melody, so it's the latter you see in the video.

I think it's worked quite well, although I appreciate the lead guitar playing isn't perfect and I can't help but wonder how this would work with an electric lead part instead . . . maybe something to try out at some point! :)

I see why you like the song.
We don't get (very many) Scottish tourism commercials here in the States.
So I hadn't heard that song before.
Very pretty mellow melody.
The stuff that would be used for background soundtracks in a movie.
This would be nice to play as the green hillsides of Scotland are being shown.
Is that what the commercial shows? (Close up of Nessy?)

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.

Hey Ken. Yeah it's a very nice melody. My sister is coming over later and she's a very accomplished flautist so I'm going to see if we can jam the track with her doing the lead bit on the flute. :-)

Here's the advert . . . I did the intepretation from memory actually so it's in a different key as it happens, but it's still reasonably close I reckon: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6A41eQNQEYE&feature=related

Here's an alternative version, using a clean electric guitar for the melody instead and incorporating a few bends rather than slides. I actually recorded this better so the balance between lead and rythym is a bit better.

If you would make an mp3 of that I would like to put that on my iPod.
I can't wait to hear what the flute added to it sounds like.
I just wish the song was longer.
Do you have a Soundclick account you could upload the mp3 to when the flute is added?

Hey Rob

That's great. I think the electric lead over the acoustic arpeggio works great. I like!

Rock on!
