After Wes' input in the last one, I've done a second version! The only problem is I've not put as much time into the mixing as I perhaps should have done  but it's very frustrating working with just an mp3 player and standard windows software as my recording and mixing tools. :( Am looking at mics etc. though now!

Here's the latest version: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YW1TAuVBZrc

Nice improvement from the first time.

If (and only if) you're trying to be more of a copy of the original, then you want to watch the timing of the first and third phrases of the acoustic part. You're starting at the same time as the electric guitar part when (according to the original recording) you want to make it more of a call and response. We've got a lesson on this intro with both guitar parts on our "Songs for Intermediates" page, which you can find here:

https://www.guitarnoise.com/article.php?id=422

if you want some further guidelines to the timing.

Terrific work! You're improving steadily and you sound a lot more confident! Very cool...

Looking forward to more.

Peace

Thanks! Well I'm kind of trying to do an accurate cover . . . . maybe a 3rd version will be on it's way at some point! I am trying to sort out a better recording system. You wouldn't believe how crudely this was constructed . . . .

Once I've sorted out that maybe I'll do a better version and do the vocals too . . . that's sticking my neck out given I can't sing, but heck, maybe it's worth a shot?!

Hey Yash

I'm sitting back and drifting away to Wish You Were Here, then I notice that I've only got to enjoy one minute twenty seconds worth...and it sounded like it was going so well?

Really enjoyed it - can't wait to hear the vocals then you'll have to play a bit longer...

Rock on!

I really liked it (I liked your first version too). I think your strumming on the electric was especially good, not an easy thing to do.

Keep up the good work, can't wait until you post the entire song. :D

Thanks for the comments. :)

I am just trying to sort out a couple of mics at the moment so I can do a better job of recording (I'm lucky that I know an audio tech who's job is working with this sort of thing all the time! Unfortunately he lives 250 miles away, but therein lies the benefits of instant messaging :)). Hopefully should be set up within a week or so, so once that's all in place I should be able to do a half decent recording. Not sure about the solo in this song, I shall look into that! Not convinced I can quite do with David does and match guitar pitch with my voice.

Watch this space. :)
