so many make new year's resolutions. so many struggle.
I can't stop doing versions of songs i like. hope I don't get sued.

I always appreciate feedback. I am learning recording and opinions help.
Very cool dog! 8)

Yes exellent - you always seem to introduce me to good songs i am not familiar with - so i thank you for that.
I know i have mentioned it before, but i am always impressed with the quality of your recordings.
i look forward to the next one.
"I like to play that guitar. I have to stare at it while I'm playing it because I'm not very good at playing it."
Noel Gallagher (who took the words right out of my mouth)
Nice, I really like how I've got different sounds coming from the different speakers I've got, good audio experience. It may happen on all your recordings, I just noticed it this time. :D
In Space, no one can hear me sing!
My lawyer wants to talk to your lawyer.. :D
that was right up my alley.. I dug this one a lot..
thanks for the listens and comments.
JoeHempel: I am learning how to place parts in the mix. I panned my slide dobro hard right.

Nice guitar work! Now about that panning . . . did you mix this through headphones? There's things about the sound field that make me think you did . . .
Playing guitar and never playing for others is like studying medicine and never working in a clinic.
moonrider. I mix using nearfield monitors.
I have to say I dont like that low pulse going on, the sound sounds fake one way or the other, espescially because the guitars and vocals sound very organic and 'alive'. The drums could do with some fills, panning is maybe slightly exagerated. The biggest thing though is that it's so darn soft. Most peaks seem to be between -2dB and -3dB and that's really not going to do it these days. It's all a matter of taste and preference ofcourse but here's what I would have done (added compression, exciter, tiny ambient reverb)

Anyway, you've slowly been elbowing your way to the top of GN IMHO so to quote Robert Schumann:"Hats off, gentlemen, a genius!" 8)
welcome back arjen.
the bass and the clavi where hard to place in the mix. I included them together to learn more about mixing. bass is difficult due to the frequencies. sometimes a note disappears and most times they boom. I have work to do.
ya. my songs are soft; low db. I haven't gotten to Mastering yet. I have looked at the on board compressor and limiter/gate and the short time I spent there the resultant sounds where scary. so naturally now I shy away from there. I know I need to go back and understand that final step. I like what you did.
half, no, most of the time I don't know what I am doing. through sheer repetition some things are making good sense.
getting music to tracks is fun. I am becoming a better player and maybe singer through all this repetition, trial and error.
GN is a great platform for me. the feedback is indispensable and much appreciated.
I suck at Guitar Hero. so I need to do this instead.
Whooboy!
I'm glad you two know what you are talking about . . . it's all Greek to me.
Somehow I missed this post and . . . of course, have to give my "not even close to" expert opinion.
Umm . . .
Nevermind, I think I'm going to take some Greek lessons.
Randy . . . voice sounding good.

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
thanks kenrodgers. my voice? er ya. I am home schooling interweb lessons and learning how to breathe.
I had finished a bad cold when I did that vocal track. there was more gravel than usual, but I liked how it worked.
it feels like I am improving. Simon, Paula, and Randy have their thumbs down however.
oh, and Arjen...sorry about my drum tracks. although ezdrummer makes things easy my skills in pasting in fills sucks. so I let that go too. ok. it's time I clean up my act.

It's even better when you use Ozone but it's very educational no matter what tools you use. If you can I really recommend getting Ozone too, it's an amazing piece of software that gets great results, is easy to understand and dont cost too much. For the rest I guess we work alot alike, I often take one aspect I want to learn and build a song around it. It's easier to keep focussed and I never run out of excuses to write a new song. :D
Can't wait to hear your next one!
Ozone looks cool. guess it is time now to take the next step. hey, thanks for your advice and input.
Nice tune, the vocal and guitars rock(we need a head banger icon) 8) I don't really get into all that tech stuff, I just mix songs by the seat of my pants so to speak. As much as I like using the stereo effect in mixing I think you just went a bit overboard with it. To my ears it sounds like 2 bands competing with each other.
