I made a recording of Sunshine of your love. It wasn't easy because I don't know the song very well. I'm not a Cream or Clapton fan so it was interesting. I did the recording in a different key and tuning (CGCFAD). The solo was beyond me, so I made one up. It was a lot of work to transpose this and record it, so comments are much appericiated.

Cool stuff...The tone is kinda hard to listen to though to be honest. Timing is a littttle off. You may want to try learning it in the normal tuning and playing along with the song for a while...Or, I guess you could do it in that tuning, but it'll soun mad weird.

Cool stuff anyways. Can you multi track? It's easier to improv a solo if you have a progression to play over.

That's just wicked! I love the tone you've got! 8) Your timing is alittle off in spots, and I'd play the whole thing through on rhythm first, then go back and do the solo. You've definately got your own style, and I like it. :D

Thanks for your feedback. I might try it again with my amp mic'd for a heavier, fuller sound. That was done with a line in through my RP50. Don't think I'll do it in standard though, would be like learning the song all over again. Plus, it's a lot easier to play it in Drop C.

I think if you slow down you would nail a real heavy version of this classic.

I think the heaviest things I have heard or played were all at a slower tempo. So slow it down and maybe play along with the original recording to get a better feel for the song. Maybe just go two steps down on every string and not drop the low E for one finger power chords. That also would add to the heaviness. Plus make some of the riff easier to play.

as for the solo I would lay down your rhythm track first and then do your solo track seperate and mix them in.

Honestly you didnt have a great feel for the rhythm in that solo so if you lay down the rhythm and then play along with it I believe you would grab a better feel for it.

Keep practicing and grab a metronome and practice those penatonic scales!

Hi Owa

If you are interested I may be able to change the pitch/key on good "Clapton" backing track of Sunshine of your love.
What key do you prefer ?

Kalle, I would appreciate if you could make a backing track of the song. I had the song in the key of Cm.

Flashback, could you please clarify how tuning down 2 steps would make the riff easier to play?

This is the intro here:

Cool sound. I know you're into the "heavy" sound, sounds good. Play with a click track, drum machine, drummer whatever you have available. Take it from someone 30 years down the road, having excellent time will serve you well.

Hi Owa

I checked your recording with the Digital Music Mentor SW and yes you are playing in C
( main chords C , F , G ) and with speed 80 BPM
I have a "sunshine of your love" backing track (without guitars) in D ( main chords D , G , A ) and with speed 115 BPM.

I will try to reduce pitch and speed on this backing track and come back to you.

If you want to listen original backing track, I can email the file (4 MB) to you in a reduced file format.

I agree with the timing - go a little slower, and use a click track to practice.

Also... make sure your fingers are coming straight down on the strings. I'm hearing some string bends that probably aren't intentional.

Tunning down doesnt make it easier.

I was just saying the original riff was in standard tuning. So if you tune just two steps down you get the same effect of down tunning (ie bassier notes) but in a standard like fingering position.

Sorry If I confused you, and I didnt notice that you had the whole riff tabbed out in 5th chords. I was refering to the original riff.

:P

Either way, the rest of my advice still stands. Slow down and take your time. And then dub the solo over.

Well Played. The tone is the one for Crazy Train or in short anything 'Ozzfest'.

I would like to hear Waterproof Blonde's 'Just close your eyes' in this tone.
