SMOKIN!!

How's it going? Thanks for your comment! I'm still working on the singing-AND-playing bit which still only really works if I can sing the song in my sleep  . At least I can go back to practicing more-or-less daily (as long as the kids let me  ).

Also, judging from the thickness of the lower E string, which is popping up the bridge pin (!). the guitar has those extra-long-lasting strings - which I tried once before and HATED  trying dutifully to wear them out meanwhile but wondering what you would recommend?

What if the Hokey Pokey IS what it's really all about?

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.

Hey all

Bet you thought I'd given up looking at Virtual Busking eh? Well, been a bit busy with 'things' but still strumming and plucking with the best of them...(beginners that is).

Stella, love the new song. Nice guitar. I love toys, don't you? I bought an electric acoustic, put new bridge, pins, and strings on the thing and it still didn't work so I'm going to change the electrics next. Also though, I bought a Yamaha 310 which had some might beefy strings on it - so I ditched those for the XLTs - much better for my soft little pinkies...

Before I sell it, I may give you all a blast of my electric - hmmmmmm :? 8) I've yet to decide what to play from my head-banging repertoire (as I haven't got one!)

Rock on!
D 8)

I'm nowhere near Chicago. I've got six string, 8 fingers, two thumbs, it's dark 'cos I'm wearing sunglasses - Hit it!

Thanks Dylan! :D

Glad to hear me and Izzy aren't the only ones with GAS lol

Actually it was a liberating ebay experience for me - the nearest music store is almost 2 hours away and their comparable Takamine acoustic electric was $600 . This was Washburn B-stock from a reputable supplier, you can't even see the paint defects and I LOVE the Supro pocket amp - it tucks right into the guitar case.

I was sold by the video on the ebay page and I have to say - the amp works just like in the video. Check this out:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290298309956&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RCRX_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=270347346124&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=CrossSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget&_trksid=p284.m184&_trkparms=algo%3DCRX%26its%3DS%252BI%252BSS%26itu%3DISS%252BUCI%252BSI%26otn%3D4

Now I just need a guitar strap ( and to learn how to stand AND play AND sing all at the same time) and I'm in business!

That Supro Pocket Amp seems pretty cool, the perfect companion for practice, and for that cheap that's great!

In Space, no one can hear me sing!

One youtube wit suggested that I should use my own words "I am not a guitar teacher" as a mantra  but I've been meaning to do this song as a lesson for MONTHS ... maybe my last lesson ever but imho if the Raconteurs cover this song, you know it's got to be cool:

Bang Bang (from the movie Kill Bill 8) )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzMY1EFKT04

How to play Bang Bang
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_x3XN5k43fE

It's a just such an easy song, 4 chords repeated over and over, 1 per line. Chorus is the same as the verse. All that remains is to lay it on as thick as possible

... living out here in the sticks I find myself occasionally in the position of the blind leading the blind (my teenager for example but he is getting better than me  ) which has been my motivation for learning how to successfully explain how to play a song (at least now you know where the shades 8) come in lol) . And also, yes! I finally know what the 3rd fret of the B string is called

So I decided I wouldn't bore anyone here with yet another (lame) cover. Why, when sooner or later another hapless victim will stumble across some cover I posted 2 years ago when I only THOUGHT I could play guitar and leave me their unflinchingly honest feedback

But - I did post another original song. Which I will take the liberty linking to here for feedback since nobody ever searches for a song they've never heard  It is loosely based on Dust in the Wind, because it became obvious to me that the first bit was only an intro to something else and - because I thought it would be fun to do something different with a song that every other beginner feels obliged to mutilate - I CAN'T DO IT - so consider my duty to this song done

Hey Stella

Glad there's still some of the 'old guard' left....

That is a beautiful song. You have a great voice for that type of ballad.

I have just got a new computer with lots of goodies for recording and effects, but your video knocks spots off the lot of them! The little children and the thunder is soooo realistic, it's spooky...

Rock on!

Thanks Dylan! Can't wait to see your next production btw - now what you REALLY need is some sultry backup singers (maybe with shades on 8) lol ) like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqx5xgiACNE

... from Bryan Ferry's Dylanesque - Dylan, Dylanesque  - and I absolutely adored it mostly because I like Dylan's songs sung by pretty much anybody else and imho Bryan Ferry has the sexiest voice alive (although you are doing nicely yourself  ) but note it is all about the BACKUP SINGERS. It also makes me feel better that the blistering guitar solo is done by some 19 yr old who's never had to shave - because how many of us are teenage mutants with double-jointed fingers who have 24 hrs a day to practice in the parent's basement? Pressure's off!

And school is starting next week, meaning I will finally have the hour of quiet time I need to change the strings on the Takamine acoustic - don't have a mike, so thinking that guitar and vocals will balance better on the larger acoustic guitar ... The videos sure give me a good excuse to practice and polish up each song though - now all I need is a quiet basement, my lost youth, and someone to bring me sandwiches  :note2:

but note it is all about the BACKUP SINGERS.

Trouble is, I'm fresh out of backup singers....Although my neighbours get together sometimes down at the Fonte of Maria Boa Morte for a singsong... I would ask them, but they wouldn't understand a word I was saying....

I always liked the idea of recreating Robert Palmers' Addicted To Love  But then I'm not alone there...

Bryan Ferry always takes me back to 8-tracks and fun times with my mates at college...ahhhh...how the world changes....

See you here soon.

Rock on!

 Well I said I wouldn't post any more covers but I lied.

I asked my teenager to keep "his" room tidy enough that I can use it to do videos .... This turned out to be the most effective way of getting him to clean up EVER  so I no longer need to film myself in the dark

Anyway I have been playing this song for a while but it took me FOREVER to learn how to sing it so as not to offend the sacred memory of Jerry Garcia!

New Speedway Boogie is from the classic acoustic album Working Man's Dead:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK7-jTVuqGU

How it SHOULD be covered:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIhvUCVNlLI

But this is to celebrate 3 years of learning guitar 8) thank you so much David Hodge and guitarnoise *all those who bravely watched Beginner Videos and still offered words of encouragement* from another proud graduate of HWNN! :D

btw my teenager is another proud graduate of HWNN who is now into scales and solos and finally ready to take some lessons from a professional teacher
