This sounds like a great package. But the problem I have is that I have the M Audio 2496 (great soundcard). The M Audio does not have midi soundfonts. What would be a solution other than getting another soundcard. I have a keyboard. Can this be used for the midi soundfonts?
There is just so much to learn with so little time!
any help would be appreciated.
Is your old( internal) sound card still hooked up to your pc? you should be able to use that for your BIB . I have a M-AUDIO fire wire, but have to use my internal card for playing midi files.--the dog
It comes with the Yamaha midi software that should fix your problem.
It's pay for, but you get a demo version with nearly everything that lasts for months (literally) from the site ( http://www.band-in-a-box.com/ ).
You just fire it up, type in some chords and set it off - it'll play the song in any one of hundreds of styles with drums, bass, keyboards, guitars etc.
Ther's a million and one other little things to tinker with, but they can all safely be ignored until you're ready to learn them.
In the full version (but not the demo) it's also got a melodist and a soloist which will churn out a chord progression and vocal melody or solo respectively, again in lots of styles. They're not half bad either :)

One big difference between the demo version and the one you pay for: you can't save a song in the demo version, in the full version you can. So, if you just want a decent backing track to jam along with, then you can do it with the demo version pretty well..

I've heard some pretty nice things done on BIB. I thing pbee( Paul Brady) uses it sometimes for his songs.--the dog

Doh! forgot that one - before I had access to the soloist I never used to save anything

It's nice to have some chord progressions saved up for practice. I don't have BIB, but I have a Roland PMA-5, which is the same functionality in a small hardware box. It's more limited (saves only 20 songs, have to use it's editing functions etc.), but I find it real handy for practice. It has a pretty good completely programmable drum machine too.
