For you Mac users out there.   Just wanted to let you know that they just came out with their iLife suite of applications.  One of them is called GarageBand.  It looks really simple to use and you can literally start recording on your mac in a matter of minutes.   If you go to the Apple website, http://www.apple.com/ilife/ .   It has a couple of amp modelers in there as well which you can plug your guitar/keyboard directly into the computer and make a variety of different sounds/music.    And it's just $49 for the entire suite.   A good deal for those wanted to do some recording but are on a tight budget.

I agree that this level of attention to us guitarists by a  big computer company is quite exciting.  ...And you can't beat the price. ...But, I think you'll find that there will be more cost to get beyond just getting some sound into the computer.
Plugging your guitar or a vocal mic direct into an imac sound card will not give you the greatest sound.  You will probably still want a preamp for each, a mixer, and a USB or PCI (if you own one of the big box macs) audio interface designed for instruments (at least a $40 USB Griffin imic, if your guitar amp has line outputs).
It would have been nice if that $99 USB keyboard they are offering also had audio connections of some kind.  Even RCA connections would be a start.
