I've just tried to record something with my pc. when I record a clean sound there is a zoom on the background. And when I use distortion there is no zoom.

Need to know more about your setup.

Try plugging directly into your PC.  What happens then?

If you listen carefully, the interference is still there in the distorted version (listen right at the beginning before you start playing), just not as loud. I can only assume that it is coming from the interaction of whatever amp/fx box you are using between guittar and pc.

I have a pretty old sound card, that needs a boost when I plug my guitar into the pc, so I connect it through my headphone amp. The first thing that I hear is exactly the same interference. Basically your average pc sound card is not designed for use with a guitar.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

i've tried pluging my guitar directly into the pc. using a line in on my soundcard --> no zoom at all.

I'm using a brand new behringer ac115 (amp).
