Hey fret factions... I am new to here... Wanted to buzz the board and share some info

Found this the other day and thought it may interest some... http://www.hiptonez.com/mobile/

Just a by the way... I am sort of heavily mixed up in new wireless communications technologies and a writer, musician, and fret fingerer

If I come across new interesting stuff that is relevant to guitars and or guitarists I will buzz the board... And likewise, if any of you have questions about new communications technologies and how they can be used as tools to great effect, showcasing your stuff to a multitude of masses... then buzz the board and I will try to share my knowledge as best I can.

Just start a new post with ... AQFC ... I will see it, and be able to reply

allright shredders... I am rippin out of here

hmmm, the idea of a mobile phone application guitar tuner........

could work I suppose, although I would be a bit suspiscious of its accuracy.

anyone actually used one of these?

found a free one here http://www.mikekohn.net/j2me.php#tuner
scroll down until you see guitar tuner or click on it from the contents menu (I've not not used this btw).

Accuracy yep... who knows.

I am not sure if that is the main point though...

sure, your at home, you have your tuner handy... But what about when your out and mobile...and dont have your tuner from home handy...you forgot it....what then?

Whip out your mobile tuner... who knows... it may be accurate. If not, surely it will get you a decent enough starting point.

Personally, if I'm hauling my guitar(s) around, I'm pretty much going to have my gig bag handy with a tuner in it. So, I really don't see much use for it, especially if it's not guaranteed to be accurate. IMHO, that is. But, that's just me. Might be useful for somebody.

No I understand...gig bag. have tuner too.

but we have started talking about accuracy ...when noone has tried it out yet. So...noone knows. Hell, it may be accurate.

gig bags are also heavyish and kinda got loads of stuff in them... i dunno.. the more i can pack into something else.

the less that is in my gig bag... :)

in any case... i bet you there comes a time when you want a tuner and your gig bag isnt handy... but i bet you will have your mobile...

i could be way wrong... :) it happens a lot

Would I take my guitar, but leave my capo at home? No. Would I leave my pick(s) at home? No. Would I leave spare strings at home? No. So why would I leave my tuner?

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

Now I have another reason to not own a mobile phone!

Seriously, where I live (and gig) cell service is spotty at best. Hate to have to rely on something that I wouldn't have good odds on using. And the accuracy question is really important, whether you've tried it out or not. You don't buy a tuner that's not accurate. Why would you use something like this unless you knew it was accurate? Being a musician, you surely should appreciate that.

You're taking a guitar someplace, you're taking a case. Almost any tuner will fit in the case as well. Plus, if you're going electric, you'd plus your guitar into the tuner. Don't think many folks can plug their guitars into their phones...

Still, it's interesting what people will come up with, isn't it?

Peace

yep points taken.

its not for everyone... (i still use my stand alone tuner)

technology is just one of those things... but having been working in a wireless space now for a few years...i think people who dont realise, will be amazed that in 5 to 10 years time, most people's mobiles will be their source hook up device into a communications network (i like to call it the grid) that will surpass what internet communities and communications has ever done.

alot will be contained in these suckers (devices) and people will be able to do alot with them. And it's amusing , that one of those things will be that they could tune a guitar. which is why i mentioned the mobile tuner application.

i am writing these days on how this will or can be used by musicians...instant global publishing, massive fan networks, instant audiences, create on the fly, mass distribution, sales, and all on the users own time. They will take it when they want it.

mobiles. technology. guitarists. musicians. you dont have to like technology. but hey, if you know what your doing, you can use it as a tool to your advantage.

anyway...thats my rant. have been going back and playing single string, single note stuff writing tunes...guitar in hand. and mobile switched off. But thats just me.

And for the moderator...

I am a guitarist of many years... I also happen to work in a wireless space...

when I found this mobile tuner I thought to write about in this forum.

i couldnt care less about the product. Its not my product. And I am not promoting it. The link to my blog just outlines the tuner in more detail.

dont follow the link if you dont want to.

Which moderator would that be? Me, Greybeard or DHodge? Sorry, facetious question! It's not that we don't appreciate people posting things (tools) that they find interesting, in fact, we really do like it! It's just that some tools are more well received than others! I hope you don't let this single thread skew your perception of GuitarNoise! We really aren't this disagreeable most of the time! And we are looking forward to more of your posts!
