My son has a squire strat with a little practice amp, it sounds so bad . Ive got a Vintage vec800n electro accoustic. My son took lessons for 2 years but has given up, I would like to get a better amp for his strat in the hope it gets him playing again. But to go and spend a lot of money on an amp and him still not to play would be silly. So the question is can you get an amp that would be ok to use with his strat and my electro accoustic, if so any recommendations. The amp would be strictly for home use but good enough to get some decent sounds out of his strat and my Vintage.

Just to add I'd probally be looking at 2nd hand, so no need for great looks or state of the art just to be half decent.

I've got a little Roland Micro cube, and love it. It is only about 8" square and about 6" thick. Super portable and built like a tank. It is 2 way powered, Batterys or plug in 9volt wall wart. It has amazing sound quality for such a tiny squirt of an amp. The speaker is only about a 4" but it puts out a real clear sound unless you crank up the gain to insane levels. If you wern't looking directly at it you would swear the sound was comming from something much larger and more expensive. It has several switchable modeling voices, reverb that is unbelievable, delay, tremolo, chorus and a couple of other effects. There is a headphone jack for private listening and an input in the back for playing along with a CD player or other music source. It is loud enough to be heard in the living room for entertaining or just playing in the bedroom by yourself. I even have used mine as a preamp driving my big amp just to add some really cool reverb and slap back delay. You won't be sorry and it can be had new for around $130. Guitar Center and Sam Ash have them and on sale at times for less than $100.
It really makes a lot of larger amps sound like crap. It isn't powerful or loud, but the quality of sound will make you want to play more. If you sound good, you want to do it more, and that's the whole idea! Even if your son bails, or wants a bigger amp later, you will want to keep it for yourself. It's that good!

I have a great elec/acoustic but not an amp specific for that. I use my Fender tube amp. it isnt ideal, but with care I can dial in a good sound. my acoustic works fine with an electric guitar amp.
just remember not to face the amp with yopur acoustic. turn the volume down if you do. ow.
