Ok, I got my Mexican Strat....I got my Squier 51 (sweet!) now I NEED a tube amp (oh where does it end) but I can't justify a $1,000 (australian) for a blues junior to the leader of the opposition... ..

So I have read good things about the "Epiphone Valve Junior 5W Head" How do you guys think this would sound amped up to my Marshall MG15DFX and would it give me a good blues crunch?
Of course I'll need one of those Behringer VINTAGE TUBE OVERDRIVE T0800 pedals that Wes likes so much.....

My god I am pathetic ! LOL

I rather like my EVH, you will need an overdrive and a reverb pedal ( I like my reverb) Also a Dano EQ is also great with it but if you get a Tubulator (under $20) it has a tone control. ( I use both)
Here is a demo I did with my EVH. Lead on one channel and Rhythm on the other ( its done with a BT)

Rocker,

Its no so much the conversion rate of the dollars but the GREED of the retailers over here !

Just looking round and comparing......( all prices converted to US dollars)

Peavy Valve King 212 we pay double what you would pay ($395.00 in US $795.00 In Oz)
Fender Blues Jnr we pay double what you would pay ($395.00 in US $795.00 in Oz)
Squier 51 I DID pay triple what you guys are paying... ($99.00 in US $273.00 in Oz)

I'd suggest the combo. The speaker in the MG15 really wouldn't do the amp any justice. Were you planning on adding a power-in thingy yourself by the way?

Sleutelbos,

Power in thingy ? lol you sound as technical as I am !

Considering I don't know what your talking about I guess I wasn't planning on adding anything :)

I was actually thinking of the combo in the first place...

Oh yeah, I'm as technical as Einstein is strong.8) The combo would be great, if you were considering the head then you'd need to connect it somehow to the Marshall. You can't use the regular input as you'll fry things so you'll need a poweramp-input, another hole designed to plug other poweramps in. I don't think your amp has that so you'd have to either add it or have it done by someone. In that case the combo would probably be cheaper as well.

You might consider the Valve Special  Another $100 and you get EQ, reverb, and some effects. I was looking at this myself.

I have the Special as well as the Valve Junior Head. I really like them both. The Special however, the reverb and effects went out on me just a few months after purchasing it. It does have a 5 year warrenty but the nearest dealer is quite far away. The digital reverb was OK but the other effects were cheesey and not very flexable. I use my OD and delay pedal with it just like I do with the VJ Head. I figure it is good like that and sounds better anyhow. I thought I wanted the extra gain stage and EQ, but in hind sight, I didn't need them. I use the VJ Head 99% of the time.
