maby a peddle will help...

not sure if your amp is solid state or tube, if it's a tube you can just crank it and get a fat overdrive

i use to have a fuzz peddle called "fat cat" it gave off a good low end and smooth fuzz. got another one called 'big muff" it sounds great comming out of my tube amp.

and if its solid state, then I recommend a pedal with tubes built in. A great one is the Seymour Duncan OD Pedal, or the English Muffin'. The only problem is that both cost $180-$210.

I've got a Crate, but not that particular model. Try working with the gain at a relatively low setting on the rhythm channel and increasing it gradually until you get the sound you want. I tend to work mostly with some crunch added in but not a lot of distortion.
