I just got the dbx 166xl Compressor/Limiter/Gate rack and im kinda new to the compressor world. I play mostly metal and I have the Electo Harmonics Metal Muff distortion pedal running to it. My main question is how do I get the most out of the compressor? Any suggestions on the settings?

To be clear, you are using this with your guitar, not for vocals...
One of the secondary results of most distortion units is that they provide compression (reduces changes in volume) and sustain, so you're not going to see large improvements there. However, you may find that the noise-gate is very useful.
Read through the manual (it's short) to get started. They have a specific discussion of working with guitars. If you have specific questions after that, feel free to ask.
