I just purchased my first piece of vintage gear (if you can call it that.)

For the ripe sum of $15, I acquired a 60sish Sears LA5 5-watt solid state amp.

I actually really really love it. The tremolo is harsh, but if you turn it all the way up (which isnt very loud at all) it gets a nice kind of overdriven type sound. A steal for $15.

Anyways, does anyone have any info on Sears amps like this? Anyway I can find what year it was made? Maybe some specs on it?

Hi :D

Yeah, not much info out there on that one.

I've never heard of it myself.

I did find one thing on an LA5 solid state amp - looks like probably what you might have.

125 bucks - made in 1969.
That's all the info on it.

I'll let you know if I run into anything else.

It looks cool.
Glad you like it :D

that's my amp! it's exactly the one. Looks like i got a steal for $15. So I guess I can assume mine was made in the late 60s.

Where did you find it?

Who needs a signature?

a guy on Craigslist. He even delivered it to me at my office.

it's a little worn on the corners, but otherwise perfect. great vintage vibe and a really cool tone

FYI, if you're interested in finding out more exact dates on it, you can often read date codes on parts (commonly transformers) inside the amp. Usually you'll see something like XXX-YY-ZZ stamped on a transformer. XXX (three digits) tells you the manufacturer, YY is the year, and ZZ is the week within the year that the part was manufactured. Sometimes YY is only Y (one digit) in which case you have to find another way to figure out the decade of your amp, but you already know it's 60s, so if it says 606-7-18 that says 18th week of 1967. (Can anyone tell that I've been looking at vintage fender gear recently? ;) )
