Hey, I need help choosing a new amp:

atm im playing through a squier strat and a 15w practice amp :? . I would like to get a decent new amp for jamming with others. I mostly play punk, some metal. What do you guys suggest? I don't really want to spend much more than £250-300..

Any response would be appreciated.

I have a Behringinr GMX 212 good for just about any sound,50 watts times 2, loads of effects, costs $250, and is gig worthy. I don't think you will get a bigger bang for your buck. 8) 8) -the dog

Hey. Long time no see. Well I do like the behringer amps personally. I dont know about the one he is talking about but I hear its good.

My AC112 (by behringer) is 60W with a 12 incher on it and it is pretty good. I can keep up (more than that) with my drummer (who is loud).

Listen to the two originals on there, they are both done with the AC112. It worked well for me at that time. Its not great for cleans but I dont think you really need them. I get radio stations sometimes but thats ok, I like the radio. I really think Behringer should start putting a tune knob on here to switch stations . Other than that it is a great amp. Just keep playing and use the included footswitch in between songs to switch to the clean channel and you wont hear the radio.

Good luck!

When it's between the AC112 and GMX, the GMX has by fat the better hardrock/metal tones. Sorry iza ;) When we're talking about less gain, it's a bit hard to chose. At higher volumes I myself had the impression the single speaker of the AC had some trouble keeping up, espescially with the bass freqs.

Anyway, for that kind of money there are plenty of amps. Randall makes some nice metal amps, Peavey, Fender, H&K and others all make basic, LOUD solidstate amps. Line6 and Vox lead the modeling race, with their Flextone III and Valvetronix series. Both should be within your range.

I've been reading into the GMX 212, and it seems excellent, however there have been a few complaints about its reliability and volume, have you had much problems with it, dog?

I have not had any problems at all. I think the complaints about the volume are related to the Clean settings not being as loud as the overdrive, but i think you need to make shure you turn up the master volume if you run it clean. as far as reliability i have had no problems, i have heard that some folks have had some problems with the Behringer blue devil but i don't know. ( my nephew has one and has had no problem with his)--hope this helps--the dog

As for reliabelity: I have dragged it all around town using public transport and it has never failed anything. The clean channel with gain at 0 is very softly, but the gain seems to be a 2nd volume knob almost, and the sound barely changes when the gain is at 10 with clean/tweed settings. Using single coils it is still perfectly clean. The distortions are insanely loud. Really.

By the way, is it GMX 212, or GX 212? I seem to get both in search, they seem to be identical, are they the same thing, or is one slightly different?

They are WILDLY different. The GX is a basic two channel amp, and while it has a proper clean, it's distortion is really mediocre. The GMX has analoge modeling for much more varied and much better overdrives/distortions. The FX are pretty much the same, and are only somewhat usefull (reverb mostly).

Do *not* get the GX but just get the newer GMX. Simple as that.
