Is there any real big difference between roland's gr-33 and gr-20 guitar synths?

Yes. Here's a couple thoughts on the advantages of GR-20 over the GR-33.

The GR-20 is newer, easier to use, over all better sound quality, faster tracking, newer effects, more otpions. The 33 has 4 switchs and the 20 has 2. Other controls that are different also. They should have designed it to allow for connecting both the guitar out and the stereo outs to be used at the same time. So that it would allow dry signal from the guitar out and wet signal from the stereo outs. What they have now is a mixed signal at the stereo out. You can get really creative when you control both signals individually. When your using a lot of delay it becomes hard to stay in time with just the wet signal. If you monitored your dry signal so just you and the band could hear it. A guitarist could set the wet signal to bring the house down.

Experiment you'll better understand the concept of wet and dry signals and the better you can control the sound.
