UPDATE: (August 2008) I am taking lessons again with a new teacher and in many ways we are returning to ground zero but I am determined to learn properly and become good at this insturment! I also have made a new purchase: A Fender DG-8 acousitc guitar - a nice beginner piece.

Hello!

I am new to the forum, but have been looking at the articles and lessons (off and on) for several weeks. I have several questions - but I will try to find the best place for those. I am going to try to make this detailed so I can refer back to this point in future posts.

Here's my story/introduction
Male - Married - Age 45
Located in Wentzville, MO (near St. Louis)

Playing guitar since January 2008
Took lessons from February to May 2008.
Will take lessons again as budget allows.

For past 3 years I have been turned-on to the karoke thing.
Last year my son got Guitar Hero for his playstation, which was good fun.
I got to thinking, what if I spent the same time and effort learning to play a real guitar instead of G.H.?!
It could be really awesome!

Equipment:
Fender Stratocaster Standard, MIM
Crate / Palomino V16 (1x12) Class A tube amp (15 Watt)
Epiphone Studio 10S amp ($15 craigslist find)
Mark II 6-String acoustic guitar ($15 garage sale find)

Welcome to GN, Fender-Bender! That's probably the most comprehensive introduction I've read hereabouts!

Yet another convert from Guitar hero, eh? And some good musical choices too....enjoy the forums!

Thanks Vic!

Yeah, I guess there have been a few guitar hero converts. My local store says that the game has lead to more than a few sales of new equipment for them. I thought it might be funny to get a sheet of the stickers made to put on the playstation guitar and put them on my Fender and see if anyone "gets it" !

Very nice introduction.

A warm welcome to the GN family. :D

You have essentially ran into one of the best sites on guitar instruction and discussion over the whole world wide web. These discussion forums are great only because of its members. Thus, I believe that you could be a solid contributor to the forums. Get help and help others.

Some more website you may find worthy checking out -

1. www.cyberfret.com
2. www.e-chords.com
3. www.azchords.com
4. www.guitar.about.com
5. www.ibreathemusic.com

Keep playing the six strings.

Rahul:

Thanks for the additional website referrals.
I have seen the guitar/about site, that was good at the beginning.
I will definately check out the others this week. (Gotta do something at work!)
