Hi... I just happened onto this web site and I am trying to get handle on exactly what is happening here - I see alot of cool collaboration etc, but my question has to do with how everyone works to together here.

I see a lot of reference to "Audacity" which I know is a recording program I am not familiar with. I do have a ProTools studio in my house however.

I am wondering how the collaborations work, and if you have to use Audacity, or if everything is done via standard file types like MP3 and .wav?

I would like to get in on some collaborations. To hear some of my original songwriting and playing (I wrote/play/recorded/mixed everything in these songs) go here: http://cruisemates.com/video/paulsongs.html

No, you don't have to use Audacity! You can use any recording program you like as long as it will allow you to save it as an mp3 file. You will need somewhere to upload your part of the song, like Soundclick.com.

The way it usually works is that someone will provide a backing track (or that may be made a part of the collab), each person takes a part, submits it (uploads it to wherever they have their music), and someone puts it all together. Who does what is decided by whoever is participating in (or orchestrating) that particular jam.

Check out the jam and collaboration forums and jump on in! :D

Oh! And, welcome to GuitarNoise!

Thank you. Where do the singers hang out? I need to collaborate with a good singer. I have very finished tracks with everything except a vocal concept.

Welcome cruisemates this site as far as I can see is really about playing guitar. On the recording front it looks pretty much like Audacity is flavor of the month.

Having said that its one of the friendliest places I have found and if guitars are your thing then its just great. If you want to talk software, hardware and recording its a little thin on the ground, mind you its not called Guitar Noise for nothing. JMHO

Welcome to GN, Cruise.

There are several vocalists around here. Just take a few days to get to know some of the contributors and you never know what magic will transpire.

Enjoy your time here!!!

Welcome to GN!

Seems you've already found the "jams and collaboration" forum....if you're looking for a singer, I'd suggest posting in there. Free advertising....you can't beat it!

Welcome to GN, I hope you find some singers. I sing sort of like a frog so I'm sure I'm not what you need.

Welcome aboard cruisemates! 8)

Actually Electrablue's explanation was almost correct; usually all parts are submitted to the person hosting the collaboration via email, they put everything together, then post it somewhere like Soundclick, Dmusic, etc. There is a tutorial in the "Online Jams & Collaborations" forum.

Welcome to GN, Cruisemates.

I've participated in a couple of online jams and have really enjoyed it.

Hope you have a similar experience. Can't sing for toffee sadly but I'm sure someone around here will be glad to help you out.

Welcome to to GN. Here is a link that should help you figure out how we collaborate here :D
http://forums.guitarnoise.com/viewtopic.php?t=18870

Also Here are a few songs I did with other members. I use other members for vocals (I don't have a good voice)

Nothing professional but we have a good time. Audacity is Freeware and is fairly simple to use. Its pretty limited but you can record 16 tracks and do some basic effects. Its a step up frome my Tascam 424 MKIII( I still use it for a mixer) Did I say its free  I think a few members here use Pro tools.

I'm listening to some of your tunes now...SWEET! :D
