hi all....i'm richard from england.....this site looks cool and having checked out the lessons i have to say i'm impressed so far....found myself nodding several times in that 'oh it all makes sense now' kinda way...
got myself an acoustic after being inspired by johnny cash's version of hurt....
been playing the basic chords and trying to develop rhythm and my fingers are developing the hard pads...the first 2 weeks was agony!!
will be experimenting with plectrums tomorrow....have a couple but feel a softer one may well help improve my lack of strumming ability!???
keep up the great work and i will put in the effort to be as good as johnny cash
ps i'm a late starter....nearly 42...but there is an article on here that has inspired me...thanks
Welcome then! keep on strumming! - re. plectrums, you *could* check out the "is a pick reeaally necessary" thread in the beginners' forum, or you can follow your plan and try it :D Often it seems, people start out with thin picks and add on thickness as they develop technique - is that a steel string accoustic you've got?
see you around

Welcome!
I'm just playing with that song at the mo, among a couple of others - although, of course, I can't do his voice much justice :)
Always good to see another UK resident joining. I'm also another late starter - don't worry though, you're never too old.
Welcome aboard.
Enjoy.
I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.
It was them that turned me to drink.
Welcome to GN

You are NEVER too old to pick up the guitar. Sure, you may not become the next pop star, but you WILL have loads of fun playing! Welcome!
