I looked at a Strat for my first guitar. my parnets said it was too expensive....$250 dollars. a 1965 American Strat is how much today???!!!!!!!!!
I think you could at least get the purchase price back.

So, how much was a Gibby LP Standard and the Fender Strat Standard then?

I was reading about a late 60's group going ape over their studio's first 8 track recording capacity. Something one can do with free software digitally these days.

It's not mine but it's Candy Apple Red and maybe $25,000, give or take, depending on seller (and color, which is nice). 8)

Bluejay...my older brother drove a blue 64 Mustang. I drove it to senior prom. I felt cooler than cool.

That is uber cool! Wow! If you'd been 5 years younger, here's a '69 duo with a Jazzmaster, property of another forum?

The Les Paul is another story, a dark one in the History of time? After Gibson discontinued the Les Paul as we know it, at the end of those famous burst years, 1960 - they tried to pass off the SG as the new Les Paul, and that only lasted for 1961 when Lester said "You can't put my name on that!" So from '62 - '67 we had some pretty fine SG's or Solid Guitars none-the-less, but the Les Paul did not made a comeback, until Elvis re-appeared, and by then his guitarist James Burton had the World's first Pink Paisle Tele, in 1968.

(as told by LP himself) Les didn't particularly love the SG, but that is not why his name was removed. He was a shrewd guy who made buck where- and whenever possible. He had it removed because he and Mary Ford were divorcing, and he wanted his income minimized for a period of time.

I built my own, though technically, as explained before, Bill Nash did the lacquer and relicing of the finish. It is loosely based on this limited run thin skin NOS RI, but aged. What a way to save money these days. Yeah, I think (or know) Fender wanted $9,000 for their Master Built Custom.

yeah Vic. that'd be awesome.
I know you like retro, because you were the only one to recognize the Rolling Stones covers I did of them covering old R and B on their first few albums.

Dogbite I congratulate you on your 45th year. What an acomplishment! I somehow feel less old. I started in 1977 so this will make 33 for me this year right? Oddly enough I seem to remember I started during the fridgid winter too. Thats why your finger hurts. Your not old, it is just cold outside. Yeah .... thats it.

it's so cold it's................

I am so old it's..................

hurt fingers are feeling better today. time to play and record something.

I went to Willie's Amnerican Guitars this week. they are known for very cool vintage instruments. I saw a red 65 strat there...25 thousand.
if my parents had bought that strat back in the 60's I bet I would have stickered it or painted it or abused it in some way.
very few people I knew left anything intact. innocent fools?
imagine if I had that unaltered strat right now? it was blue if I remember.

Yeah, what's a few stickers, and vinyl flowers. Or maybe a psychedelic paint job like Harrison's "Rocky".

But a big "cut" and a brass nut, ooh, that would be something else.

what a paint job. ya. that's what us latter day hippies did. I painted my twelve string acoustic with a huge sun and rainbow.
