My daughter Jenn, who makes cool, weird artsy jewelry, posted a set of pictures of the investment casting process on one of her blogs: http://jennculp.com/blog/?p=212#more-212

This one should be called "Dragon's Tail"
Looks like she's having fun.
I don't think my wife would let me work with a blow torch . . . she doesn't trust me not to hurt myself.
I just sliced my finger while pruning yesterday . . . I bled like stuck pig.
Guitar practice will be on hold while I mend.
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
thanks for the post.
that brings back memories of my art college days casting jewelry.
my dad was a jeweler when I was a tot. I watched him set stones and solder gold rings.
I got into art at an early age.
Your daughter is well into it. she has great knowledge of casting
and
handles the torch quite well.
you proud dad. 8)
I see the fire extinguisher there, so that's okay, but where's the hot coffee? There should be time for coffee while the jewellery is hardening. Oh well, lots of cleanup, I guess.
Hey, that is very nice stuff, thanks for posting. Quite a unique and different hobby, it is special. Using a torch and other tools like that is even more extraordinary!
Then you get your first response from a Chemistry prof who needs a doc's help with his finger, is that a coincidence or what? 8)

Great wordplay, she's definitely her father's daughter.
Very cool stuff, Ric, I went through a bunch of the pieces. Please convey my congrats and all the best for the future of the biz.

Very cool, Ric, nice to see a youngster with some creativity and talent.... and the initiative to go ahead and do something with it. Hope she does well!
BTW, how's your boy doing? Hope he's still doing OK at the modelling - and making time for a little guitar practise now and then.
:D :D :D

Yep! He's just gotten through moving to a new place in Manhattan. We're planning to meet him at the beach tomorrow, and I'm packing along his Strat. He's just got a little Washburn travel guitar at home.

Beautiful work Ric. :D
I showed my wife, who also makes a bit of jewelry (although using different methods) and she was most impressed too.
I did initially wonder what the connection was to music. But then I discovered that, among some fine work of a more abstract nature, she had also done a very good representatation of a well known lead guitarist....
Cheers,
Chris
a well known lead guitarist....
Guess the Lead Guitarist...
Buckethead?
(Treading, very softly, away from this topic . . . .)
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
That's pretty cool, Rico!
