I learned today that the blues great Etta James passed away. she had great bands and sang with so much soul.
I only saw her once, probably about 30 years ago. She struck me as very controlled in her performance, completely on top of what she could do with her voice, and how to best present it. That's pretty rare.

I read it yesterday.
R.I.P.
Etta was fantastic. I'd Rather Go Blind is an all time fave. What a great rendering of a lyric.
Johnny Otis, the man who discovered her, died the day before.
